In Today’s design and publishing studios, you certainly find one piece of software across nearly every desktop and it is Adobe InDesign.

It thanks to its user friendly tool-set that is coupled with its advanced layout options which make it quicker & easier for designers to create complete layouts for both print & digital.

but yet, this is not to say, that InDesign is the “perfect” piece of software, as you will certainly find that there are areas in it that are a just a pain in the… to complete a task no matter how it easy it sounds.

But also not to say that Adobe are constantly making improvement in its software. So below you will see that I’ve collected some of the best scripts & plugins that can help you out in doing some of the most common task. Note: Most Plugins/Scripts here are free and most will need the Creative Cloud edition of InDesign to be used.

1. OpenAsset for InDesign

This free InDesign Plugin lets you drag images directly from OpenAsset Cloud into your InDesign files. You can open InDesign files anywhere and view files linked to OpenAsset Cloud, without having to package images.

2. ProofMe CC

Upload your creative work to ProofMe cloud-based review and collaboration platform to share it with your team or anyone, anywhere in the world.

3. Export to split PDFs

A simple interface that allows the user to export a document to separate PDFs based on a page range that the user can change in the user interface. With the document open, run the script from the scripts panel. A user interface will prompt for a location for the resulting PDFs, an export setting to use, and how many pages long each PDF should be.

4. iziExport

With this InDesign add-on, you can turn any InDesign article into a new WordPress post in a one-click process.

5. SocialTabs CC

SocialTabs CC allows you to open Facebook, Google+, Instagram, Flickr and 500px directly in Adobe Apps.

6. The FontShop Plugin CC

This is the free FontShop Plugin CC, this plugin allows you to preview any of FontShop 150,000+ fonts directly in your own design. The plugin works in Photoshop,Illustrator, InDesign, or even Fireworks (CC2014 and previous versions).

7. Humane Type

Humane Type is a useful Indesign script that modifies the strict and austere display of information in a seemingly erroneous but also organic and ulimately humane way.

8. Package

This simple script does the same thing as the File > Package command, with two differences: first, it doesn’t stop to alert you about preflight problems, and second, it doesn’t create the “instructions.txt” file. P.S click on the Package and it will take a “ton” more scripts.

9. Batch-process (convert/export) documents

The script (batch) processes files. It can be used to export InDesign documents to PDF and other formats, to convert QuarkExpress and PageMaker documents to InDesign, to update large numbers of InDesign documents to the latest InDesign version.

10. Unembed Images

Pasted images (images without a link in the Links panel) and embedded images make bloated documents. The script unembeds embedded images and saves pasted images to disk, creating links in the process.
